ISLAMABAD, Dec 28: The interior ministry has advised all foreign nationals to restrict their movement and avoid attending gatherings without adequate security.
Sources said ambassadors and diplomats had been asked to avoid going to public places due to security reasons. In case of any compulsory movement, relevant authorities must be informed in advance, they added.
Meanwhile, District Police Officer (DPO) Rawalpindi Saud Aziz on Friday directed his subordinates to enhance security in the city following the suicide attack on a PPP election rally in Liaquat Bagh in which the party’s chairperson Benazir Bhutto was killed on Thursday.
The DPO told all station house officers in Rawalpindi to take special measures to safeguard the life and property of the people.
He directed the officials to deploy policemen in plainclothes at public places including bus stops, markets, hotels and business centres. The personnel should also be equipped with wireless sets, weapons, metal and explosives detectors.
He also stressed the need for extensive patrolling in Rawalpindi, especially around mosques and Imambargahs.
The DPO appealed to people to inform Rescue-15 and police emergency immediately if they spot any suspicious or abandoned luggage.—Online
