PML-Q nominee quits party in protest

SARGODHA, Dec 27: Mian Mazhar Ahmad Qureshi, a PML-Q nominee for NA-68, on Thursday parted with the party and demanded a high-level judicial inquiry under the supervision of ex-chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry into Benazir Bhutto’s killing.

Speaking to this correspondent over phone, he said the deposed CJP should be entrusted with the inquiry which was not possible otherwise. “If the government cannot provide protection to a former prime minister, how can an ordinary citizen trust the government,” he wondered.

He said he was deeply shocked over Benazir Bhutto’s assassination and tendered his resignation in protest. He said he had no intention to join any other party. —Correspondent
