KARACHI, Dec 27: The Sindh High Court Bar Association held a protest meeting on Thursday on the call of the Pakistan Bar Council.A resolution passed by the meeting, chaired by Justice (Retd) Rasheed A. Razvi, deplored that no grounds had been communicated to the SCBA President Aitzaz Ahsan or PBC members Ali Ahmed Kurd and Justice (Retd) Tariq Mahmood for their continued detention.

He said the regime was a continuation of the “martial law imposed on Nov 3”. The Bar leaders were being detained to facilitate rigging and curb any public protest after the Jan 8 elections. It warned that the Jan 8 elections would not rectify constitutional deviations. The reinstatement of the chief justices and judges of superior courts, who had declined to take oath under the PCO of Nov 3 was essential to restore the rule of law in the country, he added.

Death condoled

SHCBA Secretary Munirur Rehman, meanwhile, condoled the sudden death of Advocate Rasheeduddin Ahmed Khan, brother of Advocate Shahid Jamil Khan, legal adviser to the Karachi Building Control Authority. His funeral prayers will be held at R-28, Najma Lodge, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, after Asr prayers on Friday.—Staff Reporter
