HYDERABAD, Dec 26: Senior vice chairman of PPP, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, has said that the PPP would not accept those ‘engineered results’ that were tampered to facilitate success of PML-Q.

He said that agencies were still playing a role in helping PML-backed candidates in the country. He emphasised the need for deployment of army at the polling stations to oversee electoral process. He was talking to Dawn at the valima ceremony of Imran Khan, son of his secretary, Salahuddin in Effendi Town here on Tuesday night.

Responding to a query he expressed his satisfaction over election campaign by PPP candidates and added that they are getting good response from people. He said that PML could only get an artificial mandate through engineered results.

“Its not possible for PML to win in case free and fair elections are held. That’s why agencies’ personnel are working and supporting PML’s candidates so that they could win and get an artificial mandate”, he said.

He said that entire government machinery and agencies were helping PML’s candidates and it started working from the day when President Pervez Musharraf at a public meeting urged people to support those who had worked with him to ensure continuity of his programmes.

To a question about Election Commission’s refusal to deploy army at polling stations, he emphasised the need for troop’s deployment saying that civil administration could call army for its assistance. He said that if law and order situation is spoiled then army will have to come.

He said that everything is dependent on January 8 polls and his party is watching all developments closely to see whether anything negative is being done. He said that Election Commission has acceded to some proposals but still there are some grey areas that are to be looked into.

He said that his party’s committee headed by Senator Latif Khoso is studying electoral rolls and he has not yet submitted his report. He said that once the report is submitted, the party would give its opinion on electoral rolls that have been updated following hue and cry.
