KARACHI, Dec 26: The Sindh High Court Bar Association on Wednesday strongly condemned the maltreatment meted out to Supreme Court Bar Association President Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan and his son on Friday.
A resolution passed by the association at a meeting noted that Mr Ahsan and his son were going to Islamabad to offer Eid prayers with deposed chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry when the police intercepted them and placed the SCBA chief under house arrest again.
“This is a glaring example of the fact that Pakistan has become a police state and that there is no place for the rule of law,” the resolution said. It also vehemently condemned the continued unprecedented house arrest of the deposed CJ and 10 other judges of the Supreme Court.
The resolution reiterated that reinstatement of all the judges who refused to take oath under the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) of Nov 3 was “a condition precedent to the independence of the judiciary.”
