KARACHI: Sohrab Goth tense as ANP man killed

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 25: Firing and movement of gun-totting men on Abul Hasan Ispahani Road and Sohrab Goth that terrified area people for hours on Tuesday was later said to be a reaction against the pre-dawn murder of an Awami National Party worker.

Police sources said that 30-year-old Safeer Khan was staying at a farm house in Gadap area where he became embroiled in a dispute with his friends. The situation turned nasty and they exchanged fire that resulted in the killing of Safeer Khan, who was a president of Quaid-i-Azam Colony in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

“We lodged a case against culprits under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code,” said SP Ameer Hussain Lehri of Gadap Town without naming any of the culprits.

Section 302 pertains to murder.

He said that the corpse was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Following the legal formalities, he said, the body was shifted to the victim’s house in Quaid-i-Azam Colony.

SP Noman Siddiqi of Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town said the situation turned normal after the funeral prayers of the victim.

“Mainly the Sohrab Goth area remained disturbed,” he said and added that the situation was now under control.

ANP spokesman Amin Khattak made it clear that political rivalry was not behind the killing.
