HYDERABAD: ST accuses ‘ethnic party’ of harassment

HYDERABAD, Dec 25: Accusing an ‘ethnic party’ of harassment in Karachi, the Sunni Tehrik (ST) leaders have said that the metropolis had been turned into a no-go area and urged the government to take notice of the alleged high-handedness of the ethic party.
At a press conference at the press club here on Tuesday, the Sindh Coordination Committee member of the Sunni Tehrik, Khalid Hassan Attari, district convener of Hyderabad, Mohammad Amin Qadri and Mohammad Abid Qadri said that the ethnic party which was a coalition partner of the government, was using state machinery and attacking houses and offices of the Tehrik’s workers.
They said that the central office of Sunni Tehrik in Karachi was under siege and the candidates of the party were being issued threats of dire consequences.
They alleged that the Sunni Tehrik workers were being implicated in false cases and the entire city had been turned into a no-go-area for Sunni Tehrik to keep it away from elections.
They said that the activists of the ethnic party frequently resorted to firing and added that the provincial authorities had been informed but no action had so far been taken against them.
Contrary to this, they said, the district administration had laid a siege to the central office of Sunni Tehrik, ransacked the office and arrested a large number of workers.
Demanding immediate release of the arrested workers and withdrawal of false cases against them, they warned the federal government that if these excesses were not stopped, a country-wide protest would be launched.
