MITHI, Dec 25: The Pakistan People’s Party candidates contesting elections from Tharparkar have demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan to immediately transfer the District Returning Officer (DRO), the District Coordination Officer (DCO) and the District Police Officer (DPO) and their replacement with non-partisan officials.
In a press statement issued here on Tuesday by the PPP media cell, PPP candidate Mahesh Kumar Malani (NA-229), Imam Ali Samejo (NA-230), Wali Mohammad Rahimoon (PS-60), Pesumal (PS-61), Sharjil Memon (PS-62) and Dost Mohammad Rahimoon (PS-63) have alleged that DCO and DPO Tharparkar were conducting election campaign of PML-Q candidates.
They further said that the election camp of PML-Q candidates had been established at the residence of a traffic police officer in Mithi, while SHOs belonging to Nohri community had been posted at all police stations of the district.
The district and session judge was transferred and replaced by an additional session judge (later made as DRO), prior to announcement of the election schedule. He was assistant to former chief minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, they added.
They further alleged that he DPO, who is holding dual charge of investigation and operation wing of the police, had been serving here since 1995, and on his directive police personnel were removing flags of the PPP besides impounding private vehicles and sending them to Arbab Rahim’s election functions.
The DCO had assigned the task to monitor elections in Thar to Sattar Soomro, a favourite of the Arbabs, who had allegedly prepared police uniforms for a group of people to stamp ballot papers and to shuffle ballot boxes with an aim to secure desired results.
“The EDO education has directed his subordinate supervisors to collect NICs of all primary teachers for their postal ballot papers,” the PPP candidates alleged.
They demanded posting of impartial officials in the district.
