VEHARI, Dec 23: The Vehari district nazim and three tehsil nazims are busy using official machinery to muster public support for their favourite candidates in sheer violation of election code of conduct.
Rival candidates allege that the district administration staff is running the election campaign of former district naib nazim Syed Sajid Shah, brother of district nazim Syed Shahid Mehdi.
Mr Shah is contesting the election as an independent candidate from NA-167 against PML-Q`s nominee Ch Nazir Jutt.
The opponents claim that Mr Sajid Shah, who is regularly visiting district administration offices to muster support, is being given a VIP protocol.
Situation in Burewala tehsil municipal administration is no different where PPP’s Fiaz Ahmed Warraich is facing PML-Q candidate Ghulam Muhiyudin Chishti for PP-232 (Vehari-1) constituency. Mr Fiaz, who is the brother of Burewala tehsil nazim Usman Warraich, is getting full support from the TMA staff.
In Vehari, tehsil nazim Mian Saqib Khursheed is providing official support to independent candidates Nafisa Rasheed and Saeed Manais from PP-236 (Vehari-5) and NA-169 (Vehari-3), respectively.
Nafisa, the sister-in-law of Vehari tehsil nazim Mian Saqib Khursheed, is contesting against PML-Q nominee Tahir Iqbal Chaudhry while Manais’s opponent is PML-Q`s Aftab Khichi.
In Mailsi, Saeed Manais is also in the field as an independent candidate for NA-170 seat against the PML-Q`s Aurangzaib Khichi. While his son and former MPA Asif Saeed Manais is also in the run as an independent candidate for PP-238 seat. Mailsi tehsil nazim Asim Saeed Manais, the brother of Asif Saeed Manais, is running election campaigns of bother his father and brother with help of TMA officials.
A close aide of the district nazim said that since the PML-Q did not award tickets to the candidates on nazim’s recommendation, he had formed his own group for the upcoming elections.
Political pundits are of the view that the rift in the PML-Q over distribution of tickets could harm the party position in the general elections.
