NAWABSHAH, Dec 23: Senior advocate and a member of the Nawabshah district bar association Syed Hassan Tariq has filed a complaint against Nawabshah police, seeking legal action.

Hassan Tariq played an active role during the struggle for the restoration of chief justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry and against the imposition of emergency.

The complainant was arrested and allegedly tortured by police after which his condition became serious and he remained hospitalised for at least two weeks.

The complaint was made against Supervising Police Officer Miandad Jakhro, the then SHO A-section police station, SI Ghulam Nabi Kharal, ASI Khan Mohammed Rind, ASI Nazeer, Head constable Riaz Khoja alias Papu, PC Shahid Qureshi and others.

The complainant stated that he was arrested by the A-Section police on November 8, outside his house after which SPO Miandad Jakhro and SHO Ghulam Nabi Kharal accused him of actively participating against emergency and they were hunting for him to teach him a lesson.

He further stated that SHO then caught him from his collar, snatched his mobile phone and threw him on road after which he was kicked on his ribs and back making him unconscious.

He said that when he regained senses, he found himself in police lockup and even after his critical condition during which he vomited for several times, he was not allowed any medical treatment or hospitalisation.

He further stated that his colleagues, including Advocate Fakir Mohammed Arain, noticed his condition after a visit and informed the SPO and SHO but they did not shift him to a hospital and on 13-11-2007, his colleague, Advocate Rahim Bux Jamali intervened and talked to the district police officer after which he was taken to Nawabshah medical college hospital.

He stated that doctors detected that his condition was serious and he may loose life after which he was admitted in Chest ward where he was operated several times and was discharged on 27-11-2007.

He submitted to the court that the accused have committed a crime and legal action may be taken against them under sections 324, 337-F (iv), 342, 352, 332, 506 PPC and 17 (3) Hudood Ordinance.
