ISLAMABAD, Dec 20: Candidates of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) from Balochistan on Wednesday accused the law enforcement agencies of harassing, intimidating and torturing political opponents to get the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) elected unopposed on almost all provincial and national assemblies’ constituencies in the province.

“Law enforcement agencies are busy threatening and manhandling opposition candidates to bar them from carrying out their political activities, merely to support the PML-Q,” alleged the PPP candidates from Dera Bugti, Sarfraz Bugti, Jan Bugti and their father Mir Ghulam Qadir Bugti at a press conference.

“Police along with other security agencies detained me and my cousin on November 21 and kept us under illegal detention at an unknown place but later released us from Barkhan jail, threatening them against filing nomination papers,” Sarfraz Bugti alleged. They said however they succeeded in getting judgment in their favour from the Balochistan High Court.

“As I again tried to file my nomination papers, the security agencies stopped me and tore the verdict of the high court as well as the nomination papers,” Mr Bugti claimed. Responding to queries, he said the PPP leadership was providing full support to them, and they would never leave the party despite the fact that state resources were being used against them.

“We are determined to face even the worst of actions against us, as we had faced Nawab Akbar Bugti in the past who had full support of the state machinery,” Jan Bugti said.
