LAHORE, Dec 19: The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has imposed ad hoc on the Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF), alleging its defunct office-bearers were involved in unconstitutional activities.

The federal sports minister as president of the PSB, who imposed the ad hoc, also appointed an ad-hoc committee with immediate effect for holding transparent elections within three months.

The ad-hoc committee comprises Shahid-ur-Rehman as president, Waseem Hashmi as vice-president, Masood Ahmed, as member and Major Zulfiqar Ahmed as secretary.

“The PJF elections for a term of four years were held on Dec 17, 2006, in Lahore. Subsequently, representation of Punjab Judo Association in the said meeting was disputed owing to which the house for the meeting was not in order.

“The Pakistan Olympic Association Affiliation and Constitution Committee, in its meeting held at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad, on May 10 examined the case of Punjab Judo Association and the Pakistan Judo Federation.

“After detailed discussion the committee observed that a dispute had arisen in the Punjab Judo Association on replacing its president on Feb 11, 2006. The Committee examined the position and found out that replacement of president was not in accordance with the Constitution of the Association,” an spokesman of PSB said.

He further said that the Asian Judo Federation had also made some complaints against the behavior of PJF ex-Secretary General Naveed Mahmood.

The ex-secretary also sent a national judo team to Iran in June 2007 without permission of the government.
