Olympics internet rights awarded

LAUSANNE (Switzerland), Dec 19: CCTV.com was awarded the digital broadcast rights within China for next year’s Beijing Olympics.

CCTV.com is part of China Central Television (CCTV), the country’s largest national television network. The CCTV already has the television rights for the Beijing Games as a member of the Asian Broadcasting Union.

The IOC said it selected CCTV.com because it could work closely with its television arm and fully exploit digital broadcast rights on a number of platforms.

“The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will be a landmark moment in Olympic history, and is obviously an event of huge national interest in China,” IOC President Jacques Rogge said.
