Distance for Lahore races reduced

Published December 19, 2007

LAHORE, Dec 18: The Lahore Race Club (LRC) has reduced the distance in Sunday’s (Dec 23) Jinnah Cup events to enable full participation of horses in the prestigious event.

This was done keeping in view the equine influenza outbreak, which since the end of last month has affected the performance of a majority of horses.

According to a notification issued by the LRC, the event, named after Pakistan’s founder Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, will now go over 1,400 metres instead of the earlier planned 1,800 metres.

A maximum number of colts and fillies will take part in the term race for three-year-old Pakistani colts and fillies.

The Eid Cup, a purely Pakistan-bred horses’ race too, to be held the same day, will also be contested in the distance of over 1,400 metres.

Meanwhile the distances of class IV and Class VI races will be 1,200 metres and 1,100 metres, respectively.—AG
