Sargodha win boys’ athletics event

LAHORE, Dec 18: Sargodha, with 45 points, won the first position in the Punjab Inter-district Under-17 boys’ athletics championship at the Punjab Stadium here on Tuesday.

Lahore with 41 points remained second while Bahawalnagar seized 23 points to claim the third position.

Three finals were held on the final day.

In 100-metre race, Nazim Ali of Bahawalngar came first, finishing the distance in 11.20seconds. Ali Hayat and Mohammad Shahid both of Lahore earned the second and third spots.

Ghulam Mustafa of Sahiwal stole the show in the 800 metres race, finishing the distance in two minutes and 1.43 seconds. Munawar Hussain (Toba Tek Singh) and Waqas Mansha (Sargodha) were second and third respectively.

In the last event, Lahore won the 4x100 metres relay, clocking 45.18 seconds. Jhang and Bahawalnagar bagged the second and third slots.

Every winner of an event was honoured with a cash prize of Rs5,000. The runners-up and third placed athletes pocketed Rs3,000 and Rs2,000 respectively.
