KARACHI, Dec 18: An accountability court on Tuesday, recorded final arguments on an acquittal application of R.B. Rahoo in a case pertaining to a land scam against Mr Rahoo and others.
The judge, Syed Aley Maqbool Rizvi of the accountability court-1, recorded the final arguments from both sides and fixed Jan 12 for the pronouncement of the order on the application.
R. B. Rahoo, through his counsel, had moved an application for the cancellation of land scam charges against him. The defence counsel argued that his client was falsely implicated in the case and he was not involved in the illegal transfer of land.
The special public prosecutor submitted to the court that there were some documentary evidences against the accused and the application was not maintainable at this stage.
According to the reference (No 8/07), the accused are allegedly involved in an illegal transfer and subsequent allotment of about 75 acres adjacent to Mai Kolachi Road to certain private parties.
The former Sindh Assembly speaker, Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, was also nominated in the FIR on the grounds that the illegal allotments had been effected by his approval.
However, during the proceedings of the reference, he was found not guilty and therefore, acquitted.
Records showed that the land in question, belonging to the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), was acquired for the city’s uplift and that no payment for the land was made by the provincial government to the KPT.
