JUI-S decides to boycott election

ISLAMABAD, Dec 14: Chief of his own faction of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Maulana Samiul Haq has announced to boycott the coming general election.

Speaking at a news conference here on Friday, he said free, fair and transparent polls were not possible under the present set-up.

He termed the election a drama being staged to make amendments to the Constitution. “Parliament formed through this election will be given the task to approve unconstitutional steps of General (retd) Pervez Musharraf.”

He said his party would launch an anti-government movement, but not from the platform of the APDM or the MMA because the two alliances were pursuing the secular agenda of President Musharraf.

He said the current atmosphere was not suitable for religious parties to go into elections. He blamed PML-N leader

Nawaz Sharif for the rift in the MMA.—PPI
