AI demands reinstatement of judges

By Our Special Correspondent

LONDON, Dec 14: The Amnesty International has demanded that Pakistan’s superior court judges removed from service under the PCO be reinstated and an independent judiciary allowed to fulfil its critical role in the protection of human rights and the rule of law.

The AI has expressed serious concern that the lifting of the state of emergency on Saturday (Dec 15) will leave the Constitution fundamentally flawed, allowing human rights violations to continue unchecked. In a press release issued here on Friday the AI said key changes made under the PCO during the state of emergency will become permanent, including the removal of key independent judges.
