KARACHI, Dec 14: Sindh Fisheries Department has issued an order for stopping offshore inspection against the use of prohibited fishing nets by fishermen. However, the drive against prohibited nets will go ahead near the shore and in creeks, according to the order.
The step has been taken to facilitate fishing by local fishermen as the community was disturbed by the deep-sea check on prohibited nets. The boat-owners have been asked to concentrate now on the modification of their boats, an essential requirement of exports of seafood export to EU states, it was observed.
The order was issued after a meeting between Fisheries Secretary Muhammad Siddique Memon and a four-member committee of the Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS).—APP
