KARACHI, Dec 14: The annual elections of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) for the year 2008 are being held on Saturday (today) under the supervision of former advocate-general of Sindh Anwar Mansoor Khan.
According to the schedule, polling will start from 9am and continue till 5pm with a lunch and prayer break from 1pm to 2pm. About 4,600 voters are eligible to cast vote at the 10 polling stations set up on the city court premises.
Iftikhar Javaid Qazi, Mahmoodul Hassan and Muhammad Aqil are in the field to contest the polls for the office of president. Naeem Qureshi, Abdul Sattar, Naheed Afazal Khan and Hakim Ali Shaikh are contesting for the post of general secretary.
Abdul Hameed Yusfi, Abdul Wahab Baloch and Mushtaq Ahmad Jahangiri are contesting for the post of vice-president; Mohammad Ashfaq Satti, Muzaffar Ahmed Iqbal Sufi and Shah Faisal for the office of joint secretary; Shazia Manzoor Mughal and Syed Raeesul Buhgees for treasurer; while Abbas Haider and Syed Fateh Ali Shah are contesting for the post of librarian.
Thirty candidates have been contesting elections for the 15-member managing committee.
