Separated conjoined baby dies

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Dec 13: One of the conjoined babies, Maryam, who was separated from her sister after an eight-hour operation at Pims Children Hospital, died late Wednesday night.

A senior official of the hospital said the baby’s body was handed over to her family members.

Six-month-old Maryam had been put on life support on Wednesday, but hopes of her revival were grim. She had associated congenital cardiac pathology with a hole in the heart and was much weaker than her sister Fatima.

The doctors had to carry out the operation in the early stages because her condition started deteriorating. In such cases if one conjoined baby died then the other could not live for more than two or three hours.
