Wapda retain title

By Our Sports Reporter

LAHORE, Dec 11: Defending champions Wapda outclassed Railways 4-3 in the final to retain their title in the 23rd National Women’s Hockey championship at Punjab Stadium on Monday.

The final had to be shifted from the astro turf of the National Hockey Stadium’s outer ground to Punjab Stadium due to security reasons which became important as Sehba Musharraf was the chief guest.

The two teams were locked at 2-2 at the end of the regulation time. They were 1-1 at the breather.

To decide the outcome, both were awarded five penalty-strokes each.

Wapda cashed in on two while Railways only one.

During the scheduled time, Saima and Neelma scored one each for Wapda while Ayesha Bashir struck both goals for Railways.

Lahore seized the third spot defeating Faisalabad 4-0 with Amna Meer (2), Fauzia (1) and Rabia (1) as the scorers.
