SHEIKHUPURA, Dec 11: A Division police have failed to trace the suspect of a shopkeeper’s murder despite the lapse of four days.

An unidentified assailant had shot Humayun dead at his garments shop in the local cricket stadium on Friday (Dec 7) night. The assailants had come to purchase a paint/shirt from Humayun and got involved in a scuffle while bargaining.

The infuriated ‘customers’ later shot the shopkeeper dead in the presence of his two friends and fled.

Inspector Arslan Khan, who is investigation cell in-charge, told Dawn that probe into the incident was under way. The two friends of the victim were also being interrogated, he said.

Meanwhile, the Anjuman Ahmadiyya (Rabwah) Pakistan claims that Humayun was a victim of sectarian violence.

In a press release, Anjuman’s spokesman Saleemuddin said the victim was being threatened for the past many months. He was lately threatened a few days before the incident which suggested that it was an outcome of religious extremism.

Condemning the incident, the spokesman said Humayun was the fifth Ahamdi who was murdered in 2007.
