Code devised for corner meetings

RAWALPINDI, Dec 10: Political parties and the district administration have agreed upon a code of conduct for holding corner meetings as part of electioneering in the city. The code of conduct was discussed and approved at a meeting of the representatives of various political parties and officials of the district administration here on Monday.

The meeting was chaired by District Coordination Officer (DCO) Irfan Elahi.

It was decided in the meeting that corner meetings would be allowed after taking preventives measures.

PPP candidate and former MNA Zamarud Khan, PPP candidate Khalid Nawaz Bobi, Maulana Abdul Jalil, PPP candidate for NA-57 Amir Fida Paracha, Ishtiaq Ahmed Mirza, Maulana Abdul Majeed Hazarvi, Muhammad Shakil Awan, City Police Officer Saud Aziz, DSP special branch Chaudhry Hanif, police security officer Tahir Sikandar, PML district president Muhammad Nasir also attended the meeting.

DCO Irfan Elahi said that city district government would make every effort to make the electoral process fair, free and impartial.

He assured the participants that the administration would not exert any pressure on or discriminate against any candidate during the campaign, he clarified.

Mr Elahi informed the meeting that in case any candidate has any objection, he can complain to the city district government representative Chaudhry Habibullah.

CPO Saud Aziz said that foolproof security measures would be ensured during the electioneering.

Electioneering: Dec: Election activities gained momentum in the city as candidates started their canvassing to secure votes in the upcoming general elections, on January 8.—APP
