PML (Q) in disarray

Published December 10, 2007

SAHIWAL, Dec 9: Differences have emerged in PML-Q ranks over award of party tickets to ex-federal minister Chaudhry Nauraiz Shakoor Khan for NA-161 and Rana Aftab Ahmed Khan for PPP-221, who had joined the party after defecting from PPP.

To protest the move, 15 PML-Q office-bearers have nominated Syed Imtiaz Shah, who is party’s city chapter information secretary and provincial and central council member, to contest for PP-221.

These office-bearers said Nauraiz Shakoor and Rana Aftab were elected to the National and Punjab Assembly in the last elections on PPP tickets and later they defected to PML-Q and grant of party tickets to such turncoats was injustice with staunch workers.

Local office-bearers including Razia Zaheer, Khadim Hussain, Mian Allah Yar, Rana Mehboob Alam, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shafique Mughal, Hafiz Liaqat Ali, Aftab Baar, Jamshaid Hussain, Haq Nawaz Saghia, Hafiz Muhammad Bilal, Sheikh Abdul Rashid Saqib and Mian Saleem appealed to the PML-Q high command to reject these turncoats and instead grant party tickets to true party workers. They said they would launch Imtiaz Shah’s electioneering campaign if the PML-Q ticket was not withdrawn from Rana Aftab.
