KARACHI, Dec 9: A sub-inspector was shot dead and a constable was wounded in different parts of the city on Sunday.
In both cases, assailants were riding a motorcycle when they opened fire.
Sub-inspector Ijaz Shah, 40, was heading to investigation branch of North Nazimabad police station when he was intercepted in Block-A. He received about eight bullets in the chest and on the face which proved fatal.
SHO of North Nazimabad Police Station Salman Waheed said: “The body has been moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy. After the post-mortem examination, we would register a case under Section-302 of Pakistan Penal Code for murder.”
Earlier, a police constable was wounded when a picket came under attack by armed men in Keamari.
Police said 35-year-old constable Ahmed Hayat was posted along with his two colleagues at a Madadgar police picket in Keamari. Two armed riders slowed down their motorcycle near the post, opened fire on the constable and sped away, leaving him in critical condition.
An official at Keamari police station said the constable had received a bullet in his head. He was rushed to the JPMC where he underwent a major surgery.
Later, police registered a case under Section-353 of the PPC.
