ISLAMABAD, Dec 8: To overcome the wheat crises and to discourage hoarding in the country, the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has accepted bids for import of over 800,000 tons of wheat.

An official source in the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal) said here on Saturday that arrangement for import of wheat had also been finalised.

In order to ensure adequate supply of wheat in the country, the government approved the import of one million tons of wheat for which TCP invited bids from international suppliers, he said.

He informed that around 30,000 tons of wheat had landed at Karachi Port on Nov 29.

During the month of December, approximately 365,000 tons of additional wheat is scheduled to reach Karachi Port, he added.

He further informed that the remaining wheat will arrive in January and February 2008.
