BAHAWALPUR, Dec 6: Justice Wajihuddin (retired) on Thursday called for reinstatement of deposed judges and dismissal of those who took oath under the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO).

Speaking to lawyers here on Thursday, Mr Wajihuddin said Pervez Musharraf was an ‘unconstitutional’ president because his new electoral college did not exist. He said “we should get rid of President Musharraf to save the country”.

Demanding that the army return to barracks, the retired judge urged lawyers to continue their struggle to oust President Musharraf. He said the lawyers’ movement could not be suppressed by gagging the media. He said lawyers and judges could not be befooled.

Showing his displeasure at political parties’ unwillingness to boycott the general election, he said some parties had secretly agreed to take part in the elections. He said only lawyers, civil society and the media could spearhead the poll boycott movement.

He criticised new judges’ appointment to the Supreme Court, adding they would be shown door soon. He said new judges would be appointed on merit after termination of the incumbent judges.
