KARACHI: More poll pleas filed

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 6: More election appeals poured into the election tribunal as proceedings fixed for Thursday were adjourned because of the appellants’ failure to furnish copies to the respondents.

The appeals moved by former federal minister Syed Safwanullah (NA-251, Karachi South) and Nisar Ahmed Qazi (NA-220, Hyderabad-II) were adjourned to Dec 10 for the want of copies for the respondents.

The ex-minister said that he had submitted three nomination papers, one of which mentioned the names of non-voters as proposer and seconder. The other two papers were validly signed by voters of the constituency but his nomination was rejected without them being taken into consideration.

The candidate from Hyderabad said that the new election rules did not lay down any academic qualification. Even otherwise, there was no point in holding a general election for graduate candidates in a country where over 95 per cent of the people were non-graduates.
