Communists in Russia to appeal against vote fraud

MOSCOW, Dec 6: The head of Russia’s Communist Party on Thursday vowed to file a court appeal against vote fraud in parliamentary elections last weekend, Russian news agencies reported.

“We have decided to appeal to the Supreme Court over all the violations we have found,” Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov was quoted as saying.

“These were elections that were not free and fair,” Zyuganov said.

Communist Party officials said the appeal would take five to seven days to prepare after the official announcement of final results, which is expected later this week.

With nearly all ballots counted from Sunday’s election, the pro-Kremlin United Russia party secured a majority of 64.1 per cent and the Communist Party came a distant second with 11.6 per cent.—AFP
