Pind De Kuri steals hearts with glamorous performance

LAHORE, Dec 5: Fancied bay filly Pind De Kuri landed the feature event easily when the Lahore Gymkhana midweek races resumed after a 10-day break at the Lahore Racecourse on Wednesday.
Bookmakers shouted happily and punters stood dumbfounded when the four to one chance unknown filly beat the 40 to 100 favourite half-bred gelding Tallal The Great decisively by five lengths with unknown mare Dillagi claiming third position by a neck.
Another gelding Sun Shine finished fourth, a distance away among seven runners left in the field after the last-minute withdrawal of colt Token Of Love and gelding Murad King from the race.
This was Pind De Kuri’s fourth successive win within five weeks. On her previous outings she performed the feat on the dust track but this time she ran on the grass track clocking 50 1/5 seconds over 800 metres.
Shortly before the start of the race, Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards changed her rider, apprentice riding boy Ali Raza substituting Khalid.
The filly owned by the LRC is trained by Qaiser.
The best performer of the day was dark-bay gelding Mantar Prince, who won the supporting and fourth race defeating chestnut mare Sana by eight lengths.
In the early stages of the race, the gelding fought for a while with bay mare Royal Palace but her rider Anjum looked disinterested and took her wide on the outer track and finished a calculated third to make for a place for her owner a safe bet.
Mantar Prince is owned by the lone lady horse owner, Syeda Mubarik Begum, who rarely attends races.
Trainer Mohammad Siddiq, who was having a lean season, registered a big success when he not only broke his duck on the LRC trainers’ statistics table but astonishingly scored a double. He saddled Brave Heart in the second race and Mantar Prince in the fourth to hit the limelight.
