DERA GHAZI KHAN, Dec 5: Differences among Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-i-Azam (PML-Q) leaders, especially among the members of Leghari family, still persist despite interference by higher government authorities, Dawn learnt on Wednesday.

The sources, however, did not name the ‘higher’ authority, which intervened to broker reconciliation particularly among three groups of Leghari family — Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari and his sons, District nazim’s brother and sons and Jaafar Leghari and his wife Ameena Leghari. They all have filed nomination papers against each other causing an embarrassing situation, especially for tribal chief and former president Farooq Leghari, who is now facing threat from his immediate kith and kin.

The sources told Dawn that a higher authority wishing a patch-up persuaded Farooq Leghari’s sons - Senator Jamal Leghari and former federal minister Awais Leghari - to create harmony and understanding among their family members for the Jan 8 general elections as they were enjoying a ‘power ride’ for the past several years.

On the other hand, differences among PML(Q) local leaders including Fateh Mohammed Buzdar, Khawaja Sheraz and Mir Badshah Qaisrani are another threat to the party in the upcoming polls.

The sources said the PML(Q) leadership was likely to declare all disputed seats in the district open if differences could not be resolved sooner.
