HYDERABAD: Attack on fishermen condemned


HYDERABAD, Dec 4: The World Forum of Fisher People (WFFP) has strongly reacted to attack and injury to five fishermen of Dafri Lake, Badin. It expressed resolve to hold protest demonstrations outside Pakistani Embassies around the world.

The issue was raised at the general assembly of the WFFP in progress at Colombo, Sri Lanka, said a statement faxed to Dawn.

Delegates from 52 countries are attending it along with Pakistan’s five-member delegation led by Chairman Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum, Mohammad Ali Shah. Other members included Ms Tahira Ali, and Yousuf Gadani, it added.

Mohammad Ali Shah raised the issue of murderous attack on fishermen of Badin upon which the General Assembly decided to stage protest demonstrations outside Pakistani Embassies throughout the world.

According to the statement, Mohammad Ali Shah told the assembly of the government move of abolishing contract system for catching fish from Sindh’s sweet water and introducing license system which waderas did not accept but attacked and injured fishermen.—Bureau
