KARACHI, Dec 2: In what turned out to be in and out running, at least four horses who were backed by connections galloped to victories as they pleased in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

The recent track record of Royal Loyalty, King Of Cool, Eager Saint and Voo Doo Doll suggests that they should have ended up among those who also ran.

In the previous nine runs seven-year-old chestnut mare Royal Loyalty, who had been on the board once, outpaced mare Fancy II by four lengths.

Similarly, colt King Of Cool, who came out with no worthy performance in the last six runs, posted a two-and-a-half lengths victory over Reyan The Great.

His stable mate Eager Saint, who was off the mark in the last two outings stormed to a facile seven length’s victory over Geo Naeem while favourite bay Vice Admiral had to bite the dust at the expense of long shot mare Voo Doo Doll who was home by two lengths to land the feature event.

Having won three races on the trot Vice Admiral had a disappointing run under rider Nasir and settled for fourth.

Jockey Lateef came out with a brace by piloting King Of Cool and Eager Saint in back-to-back races. Both belong to the stables of Syed Sadruddin Shah and are trained by Ehtisham.

Earlier, public fancy two-year-old bay colt Star Is Born and three-year-old filly Crown Prince lived up to their top billing by returning with flying colours in the first two races.

The former edged John Player by six lengths to make it two on the trot in the opener while the latter overcame filly Sweetie Pie with ease to complete a hat-trick in the next.

Making his appearance after a long layoff, joint favourite colt Ace Of Base prevailed over co-favourite Back In Action by two-and-a-half lengths in a smart time of one min 3 2/5 sec in the third race.

Meanwhile, the racegoers have demanded of the racing committee to reprimand trainers and riders involved in the act of in and out running.
