CHITRAL: Workers object to PPP nominee for Chitral
By Zahiruddin
CHITRAL, Dec 2: A row over party tickets between PPP candidates continues as the nomination of Shahzada Ghulma Mohyuddin by Benazir Bhutto for NA-32 is being questioned by the party workers and local leadership.
PPP sources said that Mr Mohyuddin was unknown to the party workers because he lived in Rawalpindi and had no connection with Chitral.
The PPP district president and other leaders and workers have given a one-week deadline to the party chairperson to review the decision of awarding the ticket to a person who is not liked by the workers. They have presented a list of three aspirants — Fardad Ali Shah, Advocate Mohammad Hakim and Sardar Mohammad Khan — for choice.
A relative of the PML (Q) candidate for NA-32, Mr Mohyuddin belongs to the royal family of Chitral and his mother Begum Shahzada Sulaiman had contested the elections on a PPP ticket for the same constituency in 1993 but was defeated when the party workers had fielded a candidate against her.
Residing permanently in Peshawar, she is not acceptable to the party workers, but her son was awarded party ticket in the eleventh hour replacing wing-commander (retd) Fardad Ali Shah. The sources said that Begum Sulaiman had a close relationship with Ms Bhutto and used her influence to get the party ticket for her son.
