Authorities asked not to tolerate agitation


ISLAMABAD, Dec 1: President Pervez Musharraf has asked the governors and caretaker chief ministers to ensure fair, free and transparent elections. He was addressing governors and chief ministers of the four provinces who called on him here on Saturday.

He said that agitation in the name of politics must not be tolerated to enable the nation to fully participate in the elections. He urged them to focus on maintenance of law and order during elections.

The president emphasised that the economic upsurge the country had witnessed in the last eight years and all movement towards betterment of the people must continue at a fast pace.

Elaborating the economic activity that benefits the masses, Mr Musharraf said that continuing the policy of bricklining of canals, construction of water reservoirs, provision of gas and electrical connections, the Khushal Pakistan programme, provision of clean/safe drinking water, establishment of urban health units, Rozgar scheme, internship programme, white revolution and development of infrastructure was essential.—Agencies
