Vice Admiral poised to sail past rivals at racecourse

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Dec 1: With a hat-trick under his belt, three-year-old bay Vice Admiral looks poised to stretch his winning run when he come across opponents in the feature event of Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

He has shown splendid form in the recent past and if one goes by his track record, he seems smart enough to land the honours by overcoming the field.

He is drawn alongside nine contenders in the five furlongs seventh and last race of the programme.

Those who come in the reckoning to him a tough time are mare Voo Doo Doll and colt Moon Raker.

A card of seven races all going though a sprinting distance of five furlongs has been drawn for the day. The first race gets into action at 1.00pm.

Three-year-old chestnut filly Crown Prince, a stable mate of Vice Admiral, is on course for a hat-trick should she win the top division of class VII.

She has been promoted to the top division after posting a one length victory under rider M. Nasir last weekend. In the preceding race she galloped to an eight-and-a-half length win under the same rider.

However, she has to overcome the challenge from filly Sweetie Pie and colt Red Rufus to complete the feat.

Miss Beenish Hassan’s two-year-old bay colt Star Is Born has an outright chance to make it two on trot in the opener, a term race for two-year-old colts and fillies.

He may be chased by colt John Player and filly Sweet Girl for the places.

Saddled by trainer Ehtisham, three-year-old chestnut colt Back In Action is our fancy in the third race which has a strong field of 17 contenders barring last minute withdrawls.

Having won the last two outings as he pleased under rider Ghulam Shabbir II, he is certain to come out with a shining performance again in the third race where 17 runners are to face the starter.

Three-year-old bay colt Ace Of Base who will be making his appearance after a three months layoff, is likely to put up resistance. So does filly NYX.

Five-year-old dark bay mare Meri Paidagiree should atone to the previous loss by picking up spoils in the in the next race.

Desperado and Cape Town are likely to battle it out for the places. However, Al Zarrar has the ability to outpace the rivals.
