THATTA: Woman appeals for her son’s release

By Our Correspondent

THATTA, Dec 1: Gulshan Bano, ailing mother of the kidnapped bank manager, Javed Iqbal Memon, has appealed to President Pervez Musharraf and the caretaker chief minister and governor of Sindh to help recover her son.

Javed Iqbal, branch manager of the Jhampir branch of National Bank of Pakistan, was kidnapped on Nov 1, by bandits when he was on his way back to his native town.

Talking to Dawn, his mother contended that her cousin and former MNA Babu Ghulam Hussain had personally approached the high-ups to help recover Javed but their efforts proved futile.

It was learnt that the kidnappers had established contact with the relatives of the kidnapped banker and demanded a hefty amount as ransom but the family, having very meagre resources, could not manage the heavy amount.

The mother of the kidnapped banker also requested the media to communicate her appeal to the bandits that she would not survive if her son was not released and the future of his two siblings was at stake.
