KOLKATA, Nov 30: India’s batting hero Wasim Jaffer said on Friday it was lack of bowling power in the Pakistan ranks that allowed the home side to dictate terms in the second Test here at the Eden Gardens.

Jaffer, who is still at the crease with an unblemished 192 under his belt, said without a half-fit Shoaib Akhtar, Pakistan bowling hardly looked threatening.

“Pakistan have probably made a mistake of going into this Test with Shoaib Akhtar. He hardly looks fit enough to play, let alone bowl,” the opener told reporters.

Jaffer said it was premature to dream about having a go at Virender Sehwag’s triple ton — the only such innings in India-Pakistan Tests.

“As I said before, my aim is to score big runs. I never go to bat with thoughts of creating records,” he said while referring to Sehwag’s 309 in the Multan Test three years ago.

Commenting on the state of the Eden Gardens pitch, Jaffer claimed it had a similar look about it.

“It’s slow, but good for batting. I would term almost similar to the Feroz Shah Kotla track in Delhi where we played the first Test.”
