University students hold demo

Published December 1, 2007

LAHORE, Nov 30: A large number of Punjab University students on Friday staged a protest demonstration outside varsity’s Jamia Masjid against the cases registered against university teachers.

The protesters were carrying a banner bearing inscription: “Illegal FIR registered against teachers should be quashed.” They also chanted slogans “We reject FIR against teachers. We reject teachers’ insult. We reject black law, PCO and emergency”.

Speaking to protesters, PU IJT Nazim Attique-ur-Rehman said teachers were being victimised for launching a struggle for the independence of judiciary and ending of dictatorship.

He said the government should stop victimising teachers otherwise they would continue their protest.
