KARACHI, Nov 30: Attorney-General Malik Mohammad Qayyum paid a visit to the Sindh High Court on Friday morning. He met SHC Chief Justice Mohammad Afzal Soomro and remained with him for about half an hour after a brief chat with Deputy Attorney-General Rizwan A. Siddiqui. He told the DAG that the federal government was aware of the need for more federal attorneys in the province. He said that he had tried to do his bit for the welfare of the legal fraternity as the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association and was prepared to do more in his capacity as the principal law officer.
Problems being faced by the Sindh High Court are likely to have been discussed in the meeting. Shortage of judges and a possible new oath by the members of the superior judiciary under the Constitution before the withdrawal of the PCO are among the issues exercising the minds of official legal experts.
The AG arrived in the city on Thursday evening and drove straight to the Governor’s House for a meeting with Governor Ishratul Ibad Khan. He left for Lahore after a visit to the Sindh High Court.
