LAHORE, Nov 29: After beating Michail Elgin of Russia in an exciting three setter, Pakistan tennis prodigy Aisam-ul-Haq has entered the quarter-finals of the ATP Challenger in New Delhi, according to reports reaching here on Thursday
Aisam, after taking the first set in an easy manner with a score of 6-2, was shocked by Elgin who broke him in his very first service to take an early 3-1 lead before wrapping up the second set by 6-4 to be on even keel.
Maintaining his composure in the third set, Aisam won it after breaking Elgin in the 10th game to book a place for himself in the last eight.
In the doubles event later on Aisam and Rohan Bopanna of India defeated Adrian Cruciat of Romania and Adrian Menendez of Spain 6-3, 7-6(8) to enter the semis where the duo face Benjamin Balleret of Monaco and Sebastien De Chaunac of France.
Earlier, in the first round, Aisam defeated Ivan Sergeyev of Ukraine 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 after a battle of over two hours and in the doubles’ first round he and Bopanna defeated Stephen Amritraj of India and Cecil Mamiit of the Philippines 6-2, 6-4.
