Imran likely to be among students again

By Issam Ahmed

LAHORE, Nov 29: Two major student events are planned for Friday (today) to protest the imposition of emergency, with Imran Khan slated to make an appearance at the second.

The non-aligned Student Action Committee Lahore, which has members from 15 local universities, has vowed to stage a protest demonstration at 2:30pm at Liberty Market, while Tehrik-i-Insaaf Student Wing has organised a ‘convention’ in which chairman Imran Khan will lecture on the ‘Role of youth’ and the ‘Rule of law’ in the present political scenario, before hosting a question and answer session at 3pm at Ichhra Morr.

On Tuesday, SAC organised the first major student street protest in Lahore since the emergency began, bringing together 100 students from the Beaconhouse National University, the National College of Arts, the Punjab University and the Lahore University of Management Sciences for a one-hour long event which began from the Lahore Press Club and ended at Geo’s Bureau offices on Davis Road.

Their demands are: lifting of emergency, restoration of judges to their pre-emergency state and constitution, freedom of the media.
