PESHAWAR, Nov 27: NWFP Election Commissioner Akhter Hussain Sabir on Tuesday rejected four nomination papers filed against reserved seats for women in the Frontier assembly.
Two of the candidates, Noor Sehar and Rabia Khalil, belong to the Pakistan People’s Party while Hina Ameen and Farah Naz belong to the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F) and Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf, respectively.
It is learnt that the names of the proposer and the seconder of Noor Sehar were not mentioned in the electoral list.
The nomination papers of the other three candidates were rejected because they were below 25, the minimum age required under the Constitution for contesting the election.
All other papers filed against women’s reserved seats in the NWFP Assembly were found correct.
The scrutiny of nomination papers filed against the seats reserved for minorities in the provincial assembly will be conducted on Wednesday and for the seats reserved for women in the National Assembly on Thursday.
A total of 48 women have filed nomination papers from major political parties for the eight seats reserved for women in the National Assembly.
Similarly, 109 women filed their papers for 22 seats reserved for women in the NWFP assembly.
A total of 36 candidates have filed their papers representing different political parties for the three seats reserved for minorities in the provincial assembly.
The number of candidates who filed their papers for women’s reserved seats for the National Assembly are: 17 from the MMA, nine from the PML (Q), seven from the PPP, four each from the ANP, PML (N) and PPP (S) and two from the JUI (Sami).
The PPP candidates for the National Assembly are: Mehrun Nisa Afridi, Asma Alamgir, Shazia Tehmas Khan, Farhat Begum, Shaheen Zamir, Shumaila Tabasum and Aisha Gulalai.
The PML(Q) candidates are: Riffat Hameed Qazi, Begum Tahira Bukhari, Nighat Nawab, Shabnum Rukhsana, Nighat Orakzai, Dr Mehr Taj Roghani, Farzana Mushtaq, Dr Simin Mahmood Jan and Zarqa Shaheen.
The candidates of other political parties are: Bushra Gohar, Jamila Gillani, Khurshid Begum and Suraya Begum of the ANP, Sarkar Abbas, Riffat Akber Swati, Aneesazaib Tahirkheli and Nasreen Khattak of the PPP(S), Shazia Aurangzeb, Maryam Jawed Ghandapur, Dr Imtiaz Sultan Bukhari and Andaleeb Raza Khan of the PML (N) and Nargis Ikram and Humera Shafiq of the JUI (S).
