KARACHI: Cerebral malaria death toll rises to 20

KARACHI, Nov 27: Four more people, including a newborn and a pregnant woman, have reportedly died of viral fever in Deh Allah Bano, located in Union Council Gabopat, Keamari Town, over the past eight days, thus raising the death toll to 20 in two months.

The viral fever has been identified as cerebral malaria in most cases at a recently set up camp by a team of the Pakistan Medical Association. These deaths came to light in a survey of the affected villages conducted by the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum.

A PFF representative Sami Memon that the deadly infection had claimed four more lives over the past week. This included 35-year-old Rasheeda, a pregnant woman residing in Haji Ibrahim Goth, 50-year-old Sat Bai, resident of Moosa Daulat Faqir Village, a week-old son of Jabbar, resident of the same village and 50-year-old Haji Jooma, resident of Jooma Goth.
