A series of uncovered manholes can be found on Bosan Road that puts the life of motorists and commuters at risk.
People on their own cover manholes with bushes, pieces of date trunks, tyres, bricks and publicity boards. Many signboards placed in the middle of Bosan Road surprise pedestrians and motorists because of their multi-use.
Muhammad Safdar, a rickshaw driver, said that lids have been missing for the last one year and many accidents have occurred due to uncovered manholes. He said people living along the road said they had visited the authorities many times and submitted applications but no action was taken.
Arshad Abbas, a shopkeeper on Bosan Road, said he had placed the signboard of his shop on a manhole in the middle of the road when four accidents occurred there one after another in a single day. He said the most victims of uncovered manholes were motorcyclists.
Tariq Naeemullah, of Bosan Road, said the district nazim had adopted “Mil Ke Yaro, Multan Ujaro” or let us join hands to ruin Multan instead of his favourite chant “Mil Ke Yaro, Multan Ujaro”.
He said the district nazim had multiplied his business units with the help of big guns and was left with a little time to resolve people problems.
He said the industrialist nazim was arranging a powerhouse for his industries and had transferred the matters of district government’s affairs to the bureaucracy and union nazims. He said people were the direct sufferer of the district nazim’s business activities.
District Nazim Faisal Mukhtar said the road did not fall in the limits of Water and Sanitation Authority and the maintenance of sewerage was the responsibility of the administration of housing colonies or the town nazim.
Shakeel Laber, union council nazim 55, was not available for comment.
