HYDERABAD, Nov 26: Pakistan outclassed Bangladesh by 144 runs in the first match of under-19 one-day series at the Niaz Stadium here on Monday. After winning the toss, Bangladesh invited Pakistan to have first use of the wicket. Ahmed Shahzad and Shan Masood shared a 94-run first-wicket partnership. Ahmed Shahzad scored 56 off 64 balls with the help of nine boundaries. Shan Masood also contributed with useful 35 off 50 balls with four boundaries.
Bangladesh bowlers gave early blow to the hosts by taking four wickets on 121. But soon a 77-run fifth-wicket stand between Usman Salahuddin (43) and wicket-keeper Ali Asad (56) consolidated their team’s position and took the score to 198.
Skipper Immad Wasim also blasted 34 off 22 deliveries and later claimed three wickets for 13 runs to avenge their defeat in a U-19 World Cup fixture.
For Bangalesh, Rony Talukdar grabbed three wickets for 32 runs while Nasir Hossain and Mahmudul Hasan took two wickets each by conceding 53 and 34 runs respectively.
In reply, Bangladesh’s batting line fell like a house of cards. They lost their main batsmen for a paltry total of 79 thanks to destructive spells by Junaid Nadir and Immad Wasim.
Tamim Iqbal was caught by Junaid off Rameez at 23 while Nasir Hossain fell to Junaid after scoring 21. Junaid also claimed scalps of notable Rony Talukdar (17), Mahmudul Hasan (0) and skipper Sohrawardi, who just scored two, to take his tally of wickets to four for 29.
Skipper Immad Wasim removed two tail-enders –- Rubel Hossain and Shuvahshis Roy –- while middle-order batsman Marshal Ayub also fell prey to him by scoring 18.
Bangladesh were all out for 113 with 20.1 overs to spare. Wicket-keeper Ali Asad was declared Man-of-the-Match as he scored 56 and took two catches behind the wickets.
The Pakistan skipper attributed success in the match to all round performance by his side in battling, bowling and fielding departments. “It was really an all round show by us,” said a visibly happy Immad after winning the match to go one up in the series.
He praised bowler Junaid and promised to give tough time in the second match, scheduled to be held at the same venue on Wednesday, as well.
Bangladesh skipper Sohrawardi said it was a bad day for his side. “Our battling flopped and it failed to take advantage of our bowlers’ efforts,” he said in post-match comments.
