KARACHI: Boy’s murder case transferred

By A Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 26: The district and sessions judge, East, on Monday transferred a 12-year-old boy’s murder case to the court of additional district and sessions judge II, East.

According to the prosecution, on Oct 30 the dead body of Mohammad Anas, a sixth grade student was found hanging on the premises of Masjid-i-Aqsa in Shah Faisal Colony under mysterious circumstances, in the limits of Shah Faisal Colony police station. But, police suspected the death was a murder. Quite visible and deep signs of rope were found on and around the shoulders of the boy suggesting that hanging was not the cause of his death. The initial findings of a post-mortem examination also suggested that the boy was killed.

Anas, hailing from Muzaffargarh in Punjab, had been staying with his maternal grandfather Qari Abdul Rahman, who taught students at the madressah attached to the Masjid-i-Aqsa for the last four years.

The Shah Fasial Colony police had registered a case (FIR No 294/2007) and booked Hafiz Manzoor Ahmed, Moezzin of Masjid-i-Aqsa, under the Section-302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on Nov 1 on the charges of killing the boy.

Judical Magistrate, East, Maqbool Ahmed Memon has recorded the confessional statement of the accused, Hafiz Manzoor Ahmed.

The investigation officer of the case, Sub-inspector Ghulam Mustafa Shah of Shah Fasial Colony police station had submitted an interim charge-sheet to the court of judical magistrate-I, East, on Nov 15.

The IO said in the charge-sheet that the accused Hafiz Manzoor Ahmed had tried to sexually abuse the boy, but on the boy’s resistant, the accused killed him.

Around 14 prosecution witnesses, including Mohammad Naveed Akthar, uncle of the deceased boy, Qari Abdul Rahman maternal grandfather, Noman, Raees Noori Peshimam, Dr Abdul Jabbar medico-legal officer of the JPMC, Ghulam Mustafa Shah, investigation officer of the case, Sub-inspector Yusuf Naizi and ASI Amin Memon of Shah Fasial Colony police station will testify in the case.
