PESHAWAR, Nov 25: About 50 candidates, including former federal minister Amir Muqam and some former lawmakers, on Sunday filed nomination papers for four National Assembly and 11 NWFP assembly seats of Peshawar for the forthcoming elections.

Four former provincial ministers of the Muttahida Majlisi-i-Amal government — Asif Iqbal Daudzai, Hafiz Hashmat, Kashif Azam and Amanullah Haqqani — also submitted their nomination papers on Sunday.

Monday being the last day for filing of nomination papers, most of the candidates of major political parties, including People’s Party, Awami National Party, Pakistan Muslim League-N are expected to file their papers on Monday.

PPP leaders said they would visit the district and sessions courts in processions for filing their nomination papers before their respective returning officers.

Pakistan Muslim League-Q provincial president Amir Muqam filed his papers for NA-4 and PF-11. For NA-4, former Jamaat-i-Islami MNA Sabir Hussain Awan filed his papers.

Similarly, for the PF-11 Saqibullah Chamkani of the ANP, ex-MPA Khalid Waqar Chamkani and Intikhab Khan Chamkani advocate filed their papers.

Mr Muqam arrived in the district and the sessions courts amidst strict security as he had recently survived a suicide bombing at his residence. He was accompanied by some party workers.

Those who filed the papers for other National Assembly constituencies were Aurangzeb Mohmand for NA-1; Prof (retd) Taj Mohammad, Malik Najab Gul advocate and Azhar Majeed Mohmand for NA-2; and Ajmal Khan Afridi and Intikhab Chamkani for NA-3.

For PF-1, former MPA Ghalba Khursheed of Tehrik-i-Islami, Mohammad Siddique, Itebar Khan advocate and Abdul

Wali Khan filed their nomination papers.

Those who filed nomination papers for PF-3 were Ms Ghalba Khursheed, Qari Mohammad Yaseen, Abdul Rauf, Aurangzeb Mohmand and Zakir Pervez. For PF-4 Syed Aqil Shah, Haji Ahsanul Haq, Arbab Mazhar Ali and Ibrahim Qasmi filed their papers.

The candidates who filed their papers for the PF-5 were JUI-F leader Amanullah Haqqani, Arbab Tariq of ANP, Hamadul Haq, Malik Najab Gul and Sirajul Haq. Jamaat-i-Islami leader Kashif Azam, Asifullah Qasmi, Junaid Habib, Abdul Jabbar and Shah Hussain Afridi submitted their papers for PF-6.

Those who filed papers for other constituencies included Hafiz Hashmat of JI, Maulana Ishaq, Mohammad Ameer Khan, Mufti Azhadullah and Ajmal Khan for PF-7; JUI(F) leader Asif Iqbal Daudzai, Jehanzeb Khan and Sarwar Khan advocate for PF-8; Dr Iqbal Khalil, Akhter Ali Khanm Haji Gul and Qari Rafique Shah for PF-9; and Jawed Khan Mohmand for PF-10.
