HYDERABAD, Nov 25: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Syed Naveed Qamar on Sunday welcomed the return of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Mian Nawaz Sharif, saying his return will strengthen democratic forces.
Talking to journalists during his visit to Tando Muhammad Khan, the former federal minister said that Commonwealth’s suspension of Pakistan’s membership proved that the international community supported the democratic forces in Pakistan.
Mr Qamar, a candidate for NA-222, which comprises Tando Muhammad Khan and its adjoining areas, said that Pakistan had suffered irreparable losses due to wrong policies of Gen Musharraf. He would have to change his policies in the larger interest of the country, he added.
He said that PPP chairperson Ms Benazir Bhutto would soon embark on a whirlwind tour of the province to kick off the party’s election campaign and claimed that the PPP would sweep the polls throughout the country and Ms Bhutto would become prime minister for the third time.
PALIJO: Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo on Sunday demanded that Gen Musharraf should quit power and restore the sanctity of institutions as he had run out of all options.
Mr Palijo said at a gathering of party workers that Musharraf would have to reinstate the superior judiciary because the dictatorship could never last long. Restoration of constitution is an inherent right of the people it is not something Musharraf could give to people as charity, he remarked.
He said that even if the government maintained status quo the elections results would be better than those of presidential referendum. During eight years of his rule, Gen Musharraf had created new records of lawlessness and atrocities against Sindhi and Baloch people, he alleged.
Mr Palijo said that Pakistan had become a mercenary for Americans while criminals, landlords, feudal lords and chieftains had been thrust on the people.
Sindhis, who had fought against the Arghuns, Tarkhans, Mughals and Khiljis, would again fight against the new Madad Khan (Afghan invader), he remarked quoting characters from history.
